How to Actually Get in the Zone

The Holy Grail of Mental Training

by Laura M. Wilde

Mihaly Cskszentmihlyi,”  author of the groundbreaking book Flow, writes: “flow, also known as the zone, is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does.”

Accessing the zone is a highly sought-after state of being. Getting in the zone on command is considered nearly impossible...even for pro athletes.

Add our world of constant notifications, interruptions and constant connectivity, the zone or flow state is an elusive state for most to reach.

But it is possible! I teach pro athletes and other high performers how to truly perform at their highest level. This means getting in the zone - on command!

The key is to relax your body, clear your mind and access the subconscious mind. The key isn't to narrow the focus enough to “get in the zone.” The key is to expand the mind so that your entire environment spurs you into a peak performance state. In the zone - distractions won't exist. You'll be in flow with everything!

In the meantime - you can get started by trying these three tips.

1. Use breathing to relax your body.

2. Use mind relaxation techniques (go to your happy place) to help your mind be cleared of the clutter.

3. Delve into the corners of your subconscious to go around and beyond your deep-seated belief systems and your self doubt.
